Virus Removal - Complete re-installation

Completely remove viruses, trojans, worms, including the damage that these cause by having a total system re-installation.

Why do this?

• Erases images and data that could have implicated you if your computer had been hijacked. If you suspect a virus, do you even know what your computer is being used for?
• Speed up your system to original factory standard
• Get the latest anti-virus program re-installed
• Get the latest operating system patches installed
• Overwrites hidden deleted data
• Remove visible and invisible security threats
• If not already done, get the latest versions of your existing free software
• Re-orders everything on your hard disk (similar to doing a defrag)

What this involves

I will visit your home or business and sit down with you to discuss what data and software you need to keep. I have installation disks for all operating systems, but I may need your original application disks for other software. Even then, I may already have installation disks myself. Please note that I am not supplying free software. I will use your product key to activate the operating system and some other software on completion. These keys are usually stuck underneath laptops, and on software installation disks. I can also extract the keys for some applications using software on your computer.

If not already done, I will backup email, personal folders and documents, favorites, bookmarks, Outlook data, iTunes, or anything that you specify. NOTE: You may want to consider purchasing (or I can supply) an external hard where I can backup your data too, which you then keep for future use. Failing that, I do backup your data to my own hard drive, which is then erased on completion and satisfaction of work.

Once you are satisfied that everything is backed up, I will then completely erase your hard disk and install your operating system from scratch. On completion, I will then download (subject to an internet connection) and install all patches, updates, and service packs for your operating system.

The next stage will be to install all the applications you require and update those too. Including any anti-virus software you need. I will then download a collection of free apps that are often used. E.g, Adobe reader, flash player, quicktime, social networking software (Windows Live, Skype etc). This is entirely at your discretion.

Once all is complete, I will ask you to verify everything is to satisfaction.

The alternatives

Theoretically, a virus, trojan, worm etc, can be removed without re-installation. However, the process of actually doing this often takes what seems like forever. But the main reason I don't personally recommend a manual removal is that you cannot be 100% sure what damage has been done to your operating system. Nor can you be sure what your hard drive now has on it. A total re-install eliminates this possibility.
